Eliza Reid

Centre Manager -  Early Learning Services West Ryde

There’s nothing more rewarding than watching a child learn with passion and wonder.

I began my career in early childhood education and care in 2012 and started working at West Ryde Early Learning Centre in early 2020. I hold a Diploma in Early Childhood Education and Care and I’m trained in Child Protection and First Aid. I am currently studying my Early childhood Teachers degree.

There’s nothing more rewarding than watching a child learn with passion and wonder. If we can provide opportunities for children to learn and encourage them to try, we are giving them the steppingstones for success.

All childcare centres, including our centre, use the foundation of play-based learning to guide our experiences every day. With access to a range of age-appropriate learning resources, trained educators, and new experiences among friends, we set children up to thrive in an environment that is dedicated to learning.

Children develop their curiosity, problem-solving, confidence and resilience at our centre, and we carefully plan play-based learning experiences around their interests and learning goals. Over time, you will see your child develop abilities such as language, motor movement, memory, concentration and social relationships all by partaking in these experiences - it's a truly incredible journey to witness!

Here at West Ryde we have a long-serving, multicultural team who reflect our local community. Many have been with the centre for over 3 years. It’s the sort of centre where everyone knows all the children, no matter which room they are in. We are such a close-knit team it feels like one big family.

Our team is extremely passionate about creating a centre that is a home away from home for both families and children where our team celebrates diversity of all cultures. We’re fortunate to have educators who speak a variety of languages including Mandarin, Cantonese and Hindi, to name just a few. The centre really is an extension of the home environment, and we work in partnership with families to ensure this is the case, understanding each child’s individual needs.

The best part of my job is the team – they are so committed and positive about their role as educators. The whole team sees their role as incredibly important, helping children establish the building blocks for a successful lifetime of learning.

I have made a safety commitment to the children in our centre which is “I will ensure each child is safe, secure and listened to and I will respond to concerns in an appropriate manner. I will also support all children and families to feel welcome and valued at the centre through inclusive practices. I will respect the privacy of children and their families by keeping all information regarding child protection concerns confidential, only discussing information with relevant people to follow reporting procedures.”

I spend time in the rooms during the morning drop off time to build positive relationships with the children and families. I always make the time to say good morning and have a conversation when sitting in my office. My office door is always open, and I want families to feel like they can always approach me throughout the day.

We often offer parents on the go snacks and coffee during the morning drop off to save them time, and we regularly hold celebrations to bring our families together as a local community.

To make the transition into our service as smooth as possible, we offer the family to come in to have as many orientations as they need to feel comfortable and to ensure their child is feeling safe, secure and supported for their first day starting with us. During orientation we give the family an all about me form to fill our and complete this helps the staff get to know the children and learn their own individual routines.

With many of our team having children of their own, we have all been or are going through the process of child care and early learning – we are proud to offer support where possible - from helping our families to enrol, applying for the Child Care Subsidy or even tips to help with fussy eaters. We are here to help!
