Childcare and preschool in West Ryde, NSW
West Ryde Early Learning Centre offers long day care and a preschool program for children aged 6 weeks to 6 years, conveniently located for families in West Ryde, Denistone, Minchinbury and Ryde.
Natural outdoor environments
Our large outdoor spaces are designed for year-round play, with sheltered areas, big sandpits for all ages, bike tracks, a teepee and a water pump. Children also help care for chickens, stick insects and fish, and explore worm farms, compost bins, flower gardens and veggie gardens as part of our sustainability program.
Flexible indoor learning spaces
Inside, our nursery has two calm, caring rooms, while toddler and preschool children enjoy large, flexible spaces with features such as an interactive whiteboard. Each space is set up to support play, learning, care routines and quiet moments throughout the day.
Experienced team including 3 qualified ECTs
Our diverse team includes three qualified Early Childhood Teachers and long-term educators, with some team members here for more than 15 years. Educators speak Hindi, Chinese and Korean, helping us include different languages and cultures in the program.
Individual Learning Plans
Individual Learning Plans are developed in partnership with families, reflecting each child’s strengths, interests and developmental goals. Educators use these plans to guide learning in a way that feels personal, practical and connected to each child.
Our Government-approved Preschool program is led by qualified Early Childhood Teachers. Children build independence, practise routines and develop the social and learning skills that help them feel more ready for school.
School readiness and local connections
Children take part in excursions to local parks, cafés, shops and schools, with school visits helping preschool children become familiar with new environments. These outings give children real-world experiences and help them feel connected to their local community.
Centre events with families
We hold regular centre events and invite families to join celebrations and shared experiences. These moments help build strong relationships between children, educators and families, creating a centre community where children feel they belong.
Fresh meals and family updates
Fresh meals and snacks are prepared daily to keep children nourished and ready for their day. Families can also stay connected through our family app, with photos and updates about their child’s routines, learning and centre experiences.

- Master of Education
Twelve years ago, I arrived in Australia as a student, embarking on a journey that led me to a career in Early Childhood Teaching. Shortly after graduating, I discovered my true calling in this field, falling in love with the daily joy of meeting and supporting young children and witnessing their growth.
As an Early Childhood Teacher, I firmly believe that strong, trusting relationships are the foundation of effective learning. Building these connections with each child allows me to understand and respond to their unique needs, empowering them to reach their full potential. I am passionate about crafting innovative and engaging learning environments that stimulate curiosity, creativity, and resilience in children. Working closely with families and collaborating with fellow educators, I strive to support each child’s individual developmental journey, ensuring they feel valued, supported, and excited to learn each day.
Our innovative early learning programs
At our early learning centre in West Ryde, our play-based curriculum is guided by the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF), supporting children to learn through play, exploration and discovery.
Sustainability
Sustainability is a core part of our everyday practices, with hands-on experiences like feeding food scraps to our chickens, caring for worm farms, and using compost bins. Children learn to respect and protect the planet through activities like recycling, upcycling, and looking after animals including fish, stick insects, and chickens that also provide fresh eggs.
Community engagement
We foster strong connections with our local community through regular excursions to parks, cafés, shops, and schools, giving children real-world experiences and a sense of belonging. Our centre also hosts monthly events and family celebrations, welcoming guest presenters, local schools, and families who share their skills to enrich our educational program.
Music and movement
Our evidence-based Rhythm and Movement for Self-Regulation (RAMSR) program is designed to develop fundamental skills that help support children’s self-regulation, memory, and concentration. It is an innovative approach to holistic learning, development and well-being in early childhood.
Social and emotional learning
Children develop a strong sense of identity as they feel safe, secure and supported, building confidence, resilience and a positive sense of self. Through group activities, conversations and play, children learn to interact with others with care, empathy and respect, building positive relationships and friendships.

(0-2 years)
Nursery
Our nursery rooms are all about building secure, nurturing relationships. We focus on developing strong bonds between babies and educators, providing a high level of care and attention to each child’s individual needs. Our barefoot policy helps maintain a hygienic environment by reducing the spread of germs and creating a more grounded sensory experience for our youngest learners. We also introduce Auslan in the nursery rooms to support non-verbal communication, helping babies express their needs before they are able to speak. These early connections and communication skills lay the foundation for confident, capable learners.

(2-3 years)
Toddlers
In our Toddler room, expressive language takes off. With growing vocabularies and continued exposure to Auslan, children’s communication skills flourish. We place a strong emphasis on building peer relationships, as toddlers begin to learn social cues, take turns, and navigate friendships. Through guided play and positive role-modelling, they develop empathy, cooperation, and an understanding of others’ perspectives. For children experiencing speech delays, using Auslan helps bridge communication gaps and ensures everyone is included. This inclusive and supportive approach builds both confidence and connection during this important stage of development.

(3-4 years)
Preschool 1
Preschool 1 is where we begin to explore school readiness in collaboration with families, focusing on every area of a child’s development. Social and emotional learning is at the forefront, with a particular focus on developing self-regulation, confidence, and resilience. Our RAMSR (Rhythm and Movement for Self-Regulation) program helps children manage intense emotions and adapt to new challenges. We encourage problem-solving, perseverance, and a growth mindset—skills that are critical for a successful transition to school and lifelong learning. By nurturing these foundations, we help every child feel capable, calm, and ready for their preschool year.

(4-5 years)
Preschool 2
Preschool 2 is where school readiness becomes a dedicated focus, with an emphasis on academic and practical skills to support a smooth transition to Kindergarten. Through a play-based approach, children explore early literacy and numeracy—learning to recognise and write their names, understand phonics (letter sounds), and build foundational math skills. We invite local school representatives to connect with our pre-schoolers and help familiarise them with the idea of “big school.” Children role-play school routines, wear real school uniforms, and practise self-help skills like using lunchboxes and managing buttons and zippers. These experiences build confidence, independence, and a sense of excitement about starting school.

What a typical day looks like for your child

Arrival at the centre
Your child will be welcomed by our team of educators, who will ensure the morning transition from home to centre goes as smoothly as possible. On arrival, share information about your child’s specific needs for the day.

Mealtimes
Our centre chefs prepare a nutritious menu for your child to sit down and eat. This is a great time for everyone to share stories from the day. Educators model healthy eating practices, social behaviours and support children’s growing independence with mealtime routines.

Infant care
If you have an infant, we spend one-on-one time with them to establish a connection. Educators talk gently and respond to babies’ cues. We use songs, games, and conversations to strengthen relationships and build language skills.

Play-based learning
Your child is naturally curious. They want to learn and explore, which is why we teach through play-based learning. It supports language, motor skills, memory, emotions and social relationships. Educators plan play-based learning experiences based on children’s interests and goals.

Sleep, rest and relaxation
We match routines to your child’s individual needs. Opportunities for rest and relaxation help make them feel safe. Play-based learning experiences are provided for older children who no longer don’t sleep in centre.

Heading home
As your child prepares to head home, this is your opportunity to speak with our friendly educators about your child’s day and everything they learnt. We look forward to welcoming you back tomorrow.
Inclusive support for each child
At our West Ryde early learning centre, we tailor each child’s learning journey through a collaborative and reflective monthly program. All educators contribute to planning, which includes children’s voices, family input, cultural celebrations, community events, spontaneous play, and observation follow-ups. We complete monthly observations for full-time children and bi-monthly for part-time children to ensure every child’s progress is meaningfully captured. Mid-year and end-of-year parent-teacher discussions give families the opportunity to reflect on summative assessments and work with educators to set personalised goals that support each child’s growth and development over the following six months.
We are also committed to providing inclusive support for children with additional or neurodivergent needs. Our team works closely with allied health professionals such as speech therapists, occupational therapists, and behavioural specialists to ensure each child receives the support they need. Where appropriate, we access inclusion support staff to increase educator-to-child ratios, ensuring children with diagnosed needs can fully participate and thrive.

Frequently asked questions
A centre tour is a convenient way to experience the childcare centre of your choice and meet with our qualified educators at a time that is suitable for your family’s schedule. Click here to book a tour online.
On the day of the tour, you can observe practices and interactions within the centre environment. You’ll be able to see all the rooms and playgrounds, ask the team members any questions you have in mind, and get all the information you need to make the best decision for your child.
Enrolling is simple, and our Family Support Team will guide you through each step.
First, find your local centre and book a tour so you can meet the team and explore the learning environment. If the centre is the right fit and a place is available, you’ll receive an enrolment offer for your child. If a place is not currently available in your child’s age group, we can add your child to the waitlist and keep you updated.
To finalise your enrolment, you’ll complete an online enrolment form through a secure link sent by our Family Support Team. You’ll also need to provide key details and documents, including your child’s birth certificate, Medicare details, immunisation history statement and, if eligible, your Child Care Subsidy details.
Before your child’s first day, you may be invited to attend a Stay and Play session. This gives your child time to explore the centre, meet their educators, and start feeling comfortable in their new environment. Once your paperwork is complete, your child is ready to start their early learning journey with us.
Starting child care is a big milestone, and a little preparation can help your child feel more comfortable and confident.
Before your child’s first day, you can talk positively about their new centre, explain what their day might look like, and practise small routines such as packing their bag, saying goodbye, washing hands and sitting down for meals. You may also like to visit the centre with your child, meet their educators and ask our team about what to bring on the first day.
When your child starts, our educators will take the time to get to know your child’s routine, interests, comfort items and individual needs. Settling in looks different for every child, so we work closely with families to help children feel safe, supported and ready to learn.
Most of our child care and early education centres offer nappies and wipes, sunscreen and hats, as well as nutritious meals prepared by our in-house cook. Some centres also provide sheets and formula, so you may not need to remember to pack them.
For nursery children, be sure to bring: nappy rash cream, dummies, bottles and teats, comfort toys or blankets, three spare outfits and spare socks.
For toddlers and preschool or kindergarten-aged children, it’s best to bring: spare underwear, water bottle or sippy cup, sun hat, closed-toe shoes, two spare outfits and spare socks.
Plus, anything else your individual child may need, such as breast milk, a sleeping bag, a comforter or medication.
It’s best to speak to your centre of choice for a full list of everything included.
Early Learning Services uses Xplor Home as our family communication app. It is the best and easiest way to keep track of your child’s day.
After you enrol your child with the centre, you can utilise Xplor Home to book child care days, manage your account, receive the photographs that capture your child’s learning, learn about your child’s progress, as well as keep up-to-date with upcoming centre events and important information.
If your child shows signs of an infectious illness when they arrive at the centre or becomes sick during the day, you may be notified that you need to make alternative arrangements or pick up your child from the centre and keep them home until they are no longer infectious. While we understand that this can be inconvenient, Early Learning Services is committed to maintaining a healthy environment and reducing the risk of infection for all children.
Under the Child Care Subsidy (CCS), families are allowed 42 absence days per child, per financial year. These can be taken for any reason, including public holidays and when children are sick, without requiring families to provide documentation.
