Centre Manager -  Early Learning Services Collaroy Plateau

You can teach a student a lesson for a day; but if you can teach him to learn by creating curiosity, he will continue the learning process as long as he lives." ~ Author Unknown"

I began my career in early childhood education and care in 2008 and started working at Collaroy Plateau Early Learning Services in 2018. I hold a Diploma in Children’s Services.

I completed my first ever work experience in year 10 at the local kindergarten and loved every moment of it. I then took on a traineeship which rolled into a diploma while I was working as a room leader at the same time.  I then won an award through TAFE for the work/study I was doing which had me climb into the 2IC position. I then became Centre Manager in 2018.

My time in early education has been inspiring working with different children and families. Each year the group of children are different and you get to help shape children’s joy to learn though extending their interested and finding ways to engage children.

Through my time in early childhood, I have learnt that as an educator you need to be able to mold and adapt to work with the children around you. You need to find each child’s interest and find ways to engage children. I have also learnt so much through watching children engage in their environment teaching me every day that a stick is not always a stick it can be a fishing rod, a wand, a tool. My teaching style in constantly evolving as in early childhood we are constantly learning each day is never the same.

My approach to helping children is finding out each child’s individual needs and working with them through their ups and downs. We are all individuals and children should be treated and respected for who they are and how they learn.

Learning can be done through different types of play, you learn measurement through block play, social skills through role play, you can become scientists through looking at the garden. In early childhood everything around us becomes a classroom and we are tried to extend that interest and develop the love of learning. By following the children’s interests, it allows the children to engage and ask questions. We add different experiences to challenge children and get them school ready.

We are a strong multicultural team with many of us having been here for at least 6 years. We are a family and the centre is our second home.  We all know one another and are a community in which families know they can come in and talk to us anytime.

We teach children about health and hygiene by ensuring they wash hands correctly, to cough or sneeze into their elbows. We’re all trained to uphold Government health and safety standards which includes daily checks and cleaning of the centre as well as after each learning activity.

Our child protection statement is to keep all children safe. A place where children can communicate with us confidently and we follow the correct procedures to ensure the safety of each child.

The whole process of starting at a new centre can create confusion and anxiety for families so we aim to make this process as easy and stress-free as possible. We have centre tours so families can get to know us and we can learn about them and what their needs and goals are for their child.

We like to find out more about what you are looking for and what your children’s needs or interests are. We go through each room explaining the program and meeting the staff that work in each room. Once the tour has finished you will receive an email from myself and I am available to help with the enrolment process. I am always available to help our families especially when explaining CCS.

We also offer orientation days which allow you to meet the educators ask questions and allows your child to be comfortable in the centre before they start. We are a team of great communicators who will call you on your child’s first day letting you know how they are going. We have an open-door policy that allows parents to come in and talk to us. We focus on forming a bond with your child to help them feel a sense of belonging while at our centre.

We support families by doing our best to meet their individual family’s needs. We offer casual days and offer a holiday discount and celebrate a variety of multicultural celebrations and try to get our families all involved.   Please call us on 1800 413 885  to get in touch with us.
